Brazil coasted to a 11-1 win over Australia in their second outing at the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016, with Falcao hitting three as they moved to within touching distance of the next round.
Brazil’s dominance was felt right from the off, as the opening minute saw a litany of shots pepper the Futsalroo goal, so it was no surprise when Rodrigo volleyed in a superb effort from the right early on.
Falcao – in search of the all-time scorer’s record – almost doubled their lead with an outrageous lob from inside his own half, but it crashed against the bar, only to see Australia go level soon after. Greg Giovenali firing through Tiago’s legs against the run of play.
While Brazil seemed taken aback, that was only for a brief spell, as Fernandinho hammered home from an impossible angle before Falcao got his first of the night. Australia still had their chances on the break, but Sergio’s side’s possession play had a resilient Australia hemmed back.
Brazil had moved further clear as Falcao turned on the style, mesmerizing Tobias Seeto before slamming the ball high into the net, then following it up with some delightful ball-juggling to ignite the crowd. From that point though the Brazilian river was in full flow, as Australia’s draining doggedness left them open to being tugged out of place, which was duly punished.
Falcao capped off a strong night with his hat-trick, but a nasty injury to Je, taken away in an ambulance after an awkward fall, was the only negative for Brazil. They take on Mozambique in Cali on Saturday, with Australia facing Ukraine in Bucaramanga.
