Radio Cadena AgramonteCuba loses to Thailand in futsalWednesday, September 14, 2016Havana, Cuba, Sep 14.- Cuba lost 5-8 to Thailand in group B and said goodbye to the World Futsal Cup, staged at Medellin, Colombia.
On their second match of the preliminary phase, Cubans managed to be ahead on the board 3-0, thanks to goals by Sandy Dominguez, Andy Baquero and Alejandro Marrero, at minutes 5, 7 and 12, respectively.
But Thais reduced distance when scoring twice through Wiwat Thaijaroen and Jirawat Sornwichian at 13 and 14 minutes, in that order.
Cubans continued their offensive game, and at 18th minute, Karel Mariņo sent home the fourth Caribbean goal, and thus they commanded the first half 4-2.
However, in the second half, Thais had the outstanding performance of his captain Suphawut Thueanklang, who scored three goals (min. 20, 32 and 39). In addition, Sornwichian, Jetsada Chudech and Kritsada Wongkaeo also scored by the squad coached by Spanish Miguel Conde.
This second half was really bad for Cuban players, who did not show the same effectiveness as in the first half and only Sandy Dominguez, with his second goal of the match (min. 24), could send the ball to the opponent goal.
In their debut, Cubans were thrashed 1-7 by Egypt. Thus, with two losses, they have no chance of advancing to the next stage, this Friday will face Russia, reigning European monarch, at the close of the group stage.
