National futsal team of Iran conceded a 1-5 defeat against Spanish rivals in their first encounter at Futsal World Cup underway in Medellín as the second-largest city in Colombia.
It was Spain who netted the first goal early into the game and, while Iran failed to equalize the result, the European champions gained a 3-0 half-time lead.
Despite the result by the end of the first interval, the contest proved to be an even with Spain offering a better performance in front of goal and Iran missing invaluable opportunities, including two penalty spot-kicks.
Lozano, Ruiz, Aicardo (2 goals), Miguelin found the net for the European side while Ali Hassan Zadeh brought home a delayed joy for the Persian side.
Spain is scheduled to meet Azerbaijan in their next Group F match while Iran will have the chance to make amends against Morocco.
The 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup, as the 8th edition of the FIFA Futsal World Cup, is the quadrennial international futsal championship contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA.
The tournament kicked off in Colombia on 10 September and will run through 1 October 2016.
