Newham RecorderGenesis start new FA National Futsal Super League South campaign at home to Bristol City11 September 2016Newham-based club enjoyed memorable 2015/16 season, but that is in the past now and Carlos Felipe Codinha’s men will target more successGenesis start the new FA National Futsal Super League South season today (Sunday) with a home fixture against Bristol City.
The two clubs will do battle at the University of East London and Carlos Felipe Codinha’s Newham club will be looking to be on an incredible past campaign.
Despite a slow start, the 2015/16 season proved to be a memorable one for Genesis and their followers.
With Codinha working his magic on the pitch and Trevor Tamatave working hard off it, the amateur club managed to enjoy a huge amount of success.
They achieved it all with a young squad and up against other teams training more regularly and with better finances.
Genesis first finished fourth in the Super League South division and therefore progressed to the knock-out stages.
After beating Birmingham on away goals in the quarter-finals, they reached the Super League Grand Finals at St George’s Park.
Codinha’s men also made it to the Grand Finals of the FA Futsal Cup and unfortunately finished as runners-up to Oxford City Lions.
Oxford would prove to be a tough cookie to crack as they also defeated Genesis in the final of the Super League Grand Finals.
Although they failed to bring home any silverware to Newham, what they achieved was remarkable.
But it remains in the past now and Genesis will be keen not to rest on their laurels when Bristol visit for a 6pm kick-off tonight at UEL.
Codinha’s men have lost some key men during the summer, including captain Julio Crespo, although they’ll hope to impress again and improve the awareness of Futsal in the local area.
Last season they gave an opportunity to a number of teenagers in the Borough and will look to do the same one more this season and try to get more success.
