Futsal carnival interest grows

The third Island Pacific Apparel Futsal Carnival will offer more cash prizes this year.

The winner's prizemoney has increased from $1100 to $1500 and also collect the late Mohammed Rafiq Cup donated by Bashir Patel and family from Hai's Autoport (Canada) Ltd, which is also the co-sponsor for the tournament.

This year's event is scheduled for October 22-23 at Nadi Muslim College ground.

Tournament coordinator Nadeem Mohammed said 48 teams would be accommodated.

He said 43 had registered.

"Big names like defending champions Y-Maro from Nadroga, Southern Forest from Navua, Northpole Friends and Shop N Save NTC, together with 4R from Ba, InterContinental Resort, Sheraton Starwoods, Radisson Resort and Press FC from Lautoka, have all booked their places," he said.

"We also got Uni FC coming from Labasa this year and we are proud to announce that a couple of teams from Vanuatu have also shown interest."

"The total sponsorship has increased from $2000 to $2500," he said.

"We are proud to attract significant associate sponsors like 4R Electrical Ltd, Sports World, Canform Industries Ltd and Classic Signs. This signifies the growth and popularity that this event has gained into its third year."
