Puspa Academy keen on developing futsal

THE Under-16 Small-Sided Game (SSG) Mini Tournament organised by Puspa Academy in cooperation with Times Zone Edutainment was held yesterday at Times Zone Edutainment in Times Square yesterday.

The tournament was designed to create a learning environment in the development of futsal players in the country and guide youngsters the fundamentals and philosophy behind the importance of the teachings.

Haji Puspa bin Haji Mohammad, a certified Level 1 AFC licensed futsal coach said that it has been documented in the past that current football stars especially in Europe and South America prosper because of their futsal roots.

According to a press release, it was understood that Vietnam used to be behind Brunei in the rankings but are now playing in the World Cup together with Thailand.

Haji Puspa said that players must learn how to protect, defend and split the ball among some of the things that should be practiced in training adding that stamina is a crucial factor in games.

The futsal advocate highlighted that there are different kinds of speed whether it is used for athletes or boxing and that there is a specific speed required for football.

The organisers added that they envision forming a partnership with ministries, government agencies and the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) in the interest of developing futsal at a grassroots level.

A total of 10 teams took part in the mini tournament namely Kensei FT, Renovix FT, P16, ANT FT, Diamond FT, Spartant FT, SMSSA ‘B’, Spurs FT, SMSSA ‘A’ and Warriors FT.
