Hills NewsBrothers Greg and Wade Giovenali represent Australia at 2016 World Cup31 Aug 2016Hills Brumbies stars Greg and Wade Giovenali will represent Australia at the 2016 Futsal World Cup Finals in Colombia.
The Futsalroos’ first game of the tournament will be against African qualifiers Mozambique on September 11, before taking on World Champions Brazil and the 8th ranked Ukraine.
Entering the tournament ranked 24th, team captain Greg wants the team to reach new heights.
“I think every group in the World Cup is tough but we’ve set a high bar,” he said.
“We want to make history and be the first Australian team to reach the knockout stage.”
Australia have never made it out of the Group stages but after claiming the Futsalroos first win in a World Cup since 1992 against Mexico in the 2012 Finals, the team is better prepared this time around.
“I think last time it was a bit of an unknown and we had a young team whereas this time we know what we’re up against,” Giovenali said.
After playing with middle brother Rhys at the 2012 World Cup, 29-year old Greg will line up with 22-year old brother Wade, who’s been in the squad for the past three years.
