South Africa: National Futsal League Resumes

17 August 2016

The third edition of the National Futsal League hosted by the South African Indoor Football Association (SAIFA) resumed this past weekend after a lengthy recess due to national and international calendar and the non-availability of suitable venues in some parts of our country.

All seven clubs affiliated to the league are ready and geared up to contest for the league title.

The fixtures resumed with a match played on Saturday, 13 August 2016, at the University of KwaZulu Natal Westville Indoor Centre where eThekwini City hosted OBC Chicken from Welkom.

With this being their first encounter for the season, both teams took the opening minutes to assess their opponents and after doing so, eThekwini City picked up the momentum of the game. It didn't take long for the hosts to break the deadlock with a goal from Wiseman Cele in the 4th minute. The visitors struggled to settle and the hosts took full advantage of this and scored a further four goals before the half time whistle. Goals were scored by Radlin Sanssoucie (13th minute), Duane Gordon (14th minute) and a brace from Dermaine Ho-Chong (17th and 18th minutes). The hosts lead by 5 goals to nil at the break.

The visitors who seemed to have had some difficulty in settling down, started the second half as they ended the first half. The hosts further capitalized when Demaine Ho-Chong scored a hatrick within the first 5 minutes of the second half to ensure the hosts were in a comfortable position leading by 8 goals to nothing with fifteen minutes remaining on the clock.

The hosts managed to regroup and managed to pull a goal back when Moroka Molaba scored in the 27th minute. The visitors managed to contain the hosts from that point on and managed to score their second goal in the 32nd minute by Donald Mnanzana. Neither of the teams were able to add to their goal tally for the rest of the match.

The hosts were very focused and played as a unit whereby OBC Chicken were lacking experience and depth due to the unavailability of half their squad.

Final score was 8 - 2 in favour of eThekwini City with goals from Radlin Sanssoucie (1), Demaine Ho-Chong (5), Wiseman Cele (1) and Duane Gordon (1) while Moroka Molaba (1) and Donald Mnanzaza (1) scored for OBC Chicken.
