Oak View 9-year-old looking to make his mark in international Futsal

BOLINGBROOK – He’s only in fourth grade. But Oak View Elementary School’s Eric Ballesteros has high hopes of representing the United States in a Futsal (modified form of soccer with five players) Tournament in Barcelona, Spain early next year.

Eric, who made last year’s USA Futsal U8/Pre-Benjamin US National Futsal Team but was unable to compete, was among dozens of youngsters participating in the July 11to July 15 Elite 96 USA Futsal Elite Player Identification camp in Bolingbrook.

A product of the Bolingbrook youth soccer program, Eric has already played in the World Futsal Championships, where his Universal Soccer & Futsal Academy team finished fourth out of 32 teams. Observers felt he was one of the top players in his age group during the tournament.
