Canada Names Kyt Selaidopoulos Futsal Coach

Canada has named former futsal national team player Kyriakos (Kyt) Selaidopoulos has the squad's coach as the Maple Leafs will attempt to qualify for their first FIFA World Cup since 1989 when they begin qualification process in the CONCACAF region for Colombia 2016.

Selaidopoulos has recently served as provincial team coach for the Federation of Soccer in Québec. He has a FIFA Futsal Level 1 coaching certificate (2011) as well as his Canada Soccer Coaching B Licence (2014). He has also served as Technical Director for CS Mont-Royal Outremont.

"I am very excited and truly honoured to have the opportunity to take our National Futsal Team to the next level," said Selaidopoulos. "It will be important that the provinces, territories, and Canadians playing abroad collaborate and band together to help us make history over the next few months."

As a player, Selaidopoulos represented Canada in CONCACAF competitions in both 2013-14 and 2012. He also competed with Canada in Beach Soccer, including the FIFA World Cup in Rio de Janeiro 2006.

Coach Selaidopoulos' first task will be to lead Canada to the 2016 CONCACAF Futsal Championship in Costa Rica this May. Canada will first have to face USA in a two-match preliminary round on 5 and 6 May with the winner of that series advancing to the eight-team CONCACAF tournament (8-15 May). From that competition, four nations will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016.
