Steven TorresPanama begins training for Central American Qualifiers Panama’s futsal team has begun training this month, at the Instituto Alfredo Cantón in San Miguelito, in preparations for the Central American Zone (UNCAF) preliminary round qualifiers that will take place early next year in Guatemala.
Under Cuban coach Agustín Campuzano, Panama is scheduled to compete alongside the hosts and four other UNCAF nations (Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua) for two direct berths into the CONCACAF Championship that will also take place next year.
The team that finishes third in the UNCAF event is scheduled to face a Caribbean side for a spot into the CONCACAF event, which will double as the qualifier for the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia.
Campuzano, who led Panama to its first FIFA Futsal World Cup appearance four years ago, has called in 19 players for training camp with four returnees from the squad that finished third at the 2012 CONCACAF Championship.
