The FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016 presentation ceremony will take place in the city of Cali on Tuesday 29 September, some 345 days before the start of the tournament, the eighth futsal world finals, which will run from 10 September to 1 October.

A memorable occasion for Colombian futsal, the presentation ceremony will take place at 19:00 local time in the Salon Ritz at the Hotel Dann Carlton in Cali, and will mark the start of the countdown to a competition bringing together the top 24 teams in the world, with matches taking place in Cali, Medellin, Bucaramanga and Ibague.

The event will reveal detailed information on the preparations being made by the host cities and will also see the launch of the official tournament emblem. Nearly 300 guests will be attending and they will each have the opportunity to have their photographs taken with the FIFA Futsal World Cup Winner's Trophy.

Offering a warm welcome to those gathered at the event will be Luis Bedoya Giraldo, the deputy chairman of FIFA’s Futsal Committee and the chairman of the Colombian Football Association (FCF); Ramon Jesurun Franco, the chairman of the Colombia 2016 Local Organising Committee (LOC); and the Mayor of Cali, Rodrigo Guerrero Velasco. Also attending will be Colombia’s national futsal team coach Osmar Fonnegra, his national team captain Andres Camilo Reyes and Coldeportes CEO Andres Botero, along with a number of Colombian coaches and players and representatives of the local sports authorities in the host cities.

“We are absolutely delighted to be organising this event in our country and with the efforts the four host cities have been making to meet all FIFA’s standard requirements,” said Jesurun Franco. “We know that the people of Colombia are going to catch futsal fever, and this major ceremony in Cali will provide an indication of the atmosphere we can expect in every arena during the 20 days of the competition.”

The Cali ceremony will provide the LOC with a stage for the official launch of the second FIFA competition to be organised by Colombia in the last five years, with the country having very successfully hosted the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2011 in eight cities.
