Embassies Ramadan Futsal Championship from June 22

DOHA: Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) is organising for the first time the Embassies Ramadan Futsal Championship (5X5) as part of its Ramadan programme.

The tournament will be held in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry, with teams from the embassies of the UAE, Tunisia, Sudan, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, the UK, France, Mexico, India and Ethiopia and the ministry

“For the first time, a league is being organised for diplomatic staff and their families.

“We are honoured that the ministry will also have a team in the league, thus enhancing the role of sport in the development of informal and friendly relations among staff, which is one of the goals of sport in the international society,” Nasser Abdullah Al Hajri, Marketing Director, AZF, told a press conference.

He said: “We aim to organise such competitions to increase the number of participants in our physical activity and sports programmes, Especially for embassies, the idea is to integrate staff in our Ramadan activities and change their perceptions about Ramadan, as it is not the month of fatigue and stress.

“On the contrary, our religion and culture see Ramadan as the month of activity, interaction and work.”

Abdulaziz Al Neama from the ministry said: “We thank AZF for continuing to promote sports and activities for all members of the community regardless of the level of physical fitness, and provide innovative programmes to encourage them to change lifestyles.

“As soon as AZF officials contacted us in the ministry, we were enthusiastic to participate with our team and we also found a high response from embassies.

“We hope this will be the beginning of an ongoing partnership that extends to activities throughout the year, not just during Ramadan,”

AZF is taking care of organisational aspects of the tournament in terms of stadiums, referees and regulatory procedures.

The tournament will be held in the indoor pitch in Aspire Dome after Taraweeh prayers for 10 days from June 22.
