Dynamo win dramatic Russian Championship Game 2 on penalties

The Russian Championship saga is inching closer towards its climax, as Dynamo secured a penalty shoot-out victory against Gazprom in the Game 2. Dynamo went into this match aiming for a win to level the five match series. The hosts started the stronger side with early goals from Fernandão, Fernandinho, and Nando to take 3-1 lead before the lead. However, it proved to be impossible to hold this result, as Gazprom equalized after Fukin was shown a straight red card. No team emerged triumphant in the overtime, with both sides creating plenty but unable to finish off. In the penalty shoot-out, Dynamo’s head coach David Marin substituted the goalkeeper. Marcenio squander his chance, Dynamo made the most of their opportunities to win 3-2.

With the result, Dynamo level the five match series, and both teams head to Yugorsk. Game 3 and Game 4 will be held 6-7 June in Yugorsk, with the final game of the series, if necessary, coming back to Moscow on June 10.
