Cyprus hoping to host futsal qualifiers

The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) has put forward its candidacy to UEFA to host the national side’s group for the upcoming 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup qualifiers.

The draw for the futsal qualifiers takes place on June 2 and according to FIFA’s scheduling, the games will take place on October 22, 23 and 25. The final decision on the group hosts will be taken by UEFA – which is responsible for the seven World Cup berths from Europe – following next month’s draw.

Next year’s eighth edition of the Futsal World Cup will be held in Colombia between September 10 and October 2.

Meanwhile, the Cyprus national futsal team will be begin preparations for the qualifiers next week starting with training sessions from Monday until Friday at the Tassos Papadopoulos-Eleftheria Arena in Nicosia.

Cyprus boss Yiannos Mylonas has called up seven players from recent double winners APOEL.
