Boro draw vs ReadingBoro were pegged back to a 5-5 draw on Sunday by a strong Reading side in the first match to be played at the brand new Middlesbrough Sports Village despite holding on to a 4-1 half time lead.
Mikey Roberts was the scorer of the historic goal at Boro's new home against a side who had dished out a 12-4 thrashing in the reverse fixture. A win would have done no harm to Boro's chances of a place in the Grand Finals, but now, with Reading's last minute equaliser, their fate is no longer in their own hands.
Birmingham visit Teesside on Sunday (kick off 2pm) and the match will be played as part of Middlesbrough's £18m venue's grand opening weekend. Entry is free all day and there will be lots of activities from all partner clubs, with the FA Super League match one of the highlights of the weekend.
Roberts, Boro's all time leading scorer, is delighted to have returned to play in the town.
"Thornaby Pavilion was fantastic, but we are so happy to be able to play in Middlesbrough and the new venue is amazing. It's the start of a new era for the club and we have a new academy starting too so the future looks good," he said.
