krqe.comNew Mexico Roadrunners bring professional futsal to AlbuquerqueBy
Jared ChesterALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Former Lobo women’s soccer coach Kit Vela and husband Jorge Vela are the head coaches for Albuquerque’s first professional Futsal team. They join the Major League of Futsal or MLF in 2015. This is a big opportunity for the state of New Mexico and in coach Vela’s mind.
“Beyond words, I think it is a fantastic opportunity for a men’s professional team, but also for the youth of New Mexico,” Said Kit Vela.
The Roadrunners will be having open tryouts held across the state in the coming months. The most recent tryouts will be happening April 23rd and 26th from 6-8pm at Albuquerque Futsal, which is located at 3601 Princeton Dr. NW, Suite A. Tryouts will cost $50.00, which covers insurance, and players trying out for the Professional team must be 16 years old.
Information on the youth team has not been released yet, but they are also looking for younger talent under the age of 16 to help develop. The New Mexico Roadrunners are set to start play sometime in June.
