The 2014 FutsalPlanet Best Young Player of the World Adolfo Fernández Díaz will sign for European Champions Barcelona from their local rivals Marfil Santa Caloma, according to well-placed newspaper MundoDeportivo. He will sign a 4 year contract but will be immediately loaned back for one season to the club where he has been for over a decade.

It has been a whirlwind season for the 21 year old which has confirmed his status as a rising star. Alongside being voted the best young player in the world he has also made his debut with the Spanish National Team. His form has seen him record 21 goals in the league with two games to go and his season could end with a spectacular finale, as he is set to face Inter Movistar in the Copa del Rey Final on 2nd May.

On winning the FutsalPlanet award he commented “It makes me very happy, an award I never expected, but it has been possible thanks to the work I put in each day and, above all, my teammates. It gives me motivation to continue working more each day. I am a player that demands a lot of myself and each day I want more.”

He added “I dedicate it to all those that are with me in the good and bad moments. To my teammates and my friends, but above all and especially my parents and partner, who are the best thing I have. I want this prize to be a motivation for all youth players that have a big future ahead of them. I want them to know that with hard work, humility and sacrifice you can achieve everything.”

This attitude has enabled the pivot to achieve so much already in a career that is just beginning. With a future representing two of the world’s best teams in F.C. Barcelona and the Spanish National side he has the opportunity to reach the top of the world game. Maybe then he will go on to join his compatriots Javi Rodriguez (2005), Kike (2009) and future club and country teammate Sergio Lozano (2013) as the winner of the FutsalPlanet Best Player of the World Award.
