Italy flies to the Futsal Euros with the AGLA-BOYS

Three wins out of three sees Italy qualify for the European Championship in Serbia scheduled for January/February 2016. They defeated Finland (4-0), Belarus (2-1) and hosts Poland (6-3). They qualified after the second game against the Belarussians and eight of the key protagonists were AGLA-BOYS; goalkeeper STEFANO MAMMARELLA and outfield players MARCO ERCOLESSI, RODOLFO FORTINO, ALEX MERLIM, ANGELO SCHININA, HUMBERTO HONORIO, MASSIMO DE LUCA and JULIAO MURILO FERREIRA.

In the 4-0 victory over Finland coach’s Mico Martic team, coach Roberto Menichelli selected in the starting five MAMMARELLA, ERCOLESSI, FORTINO and MERLIM. Goals were scored by AGLA ENDORSEES MURILO and ERCOLESSI.

They suffered the most in their successful qualification against Belarus. In the starting line up chosen by the Azzurri’s Head Coach was the immovable MAMMARELLA, ERCOLESSI and MERLIM.

In the last match against Poland led by Italian Andrea Bucciol the starters included MAMMARELLA, MERLIM and FORTINO with the AGLA-BOY FORTINO getting a brace.

Italian Head Coach Roberto Menichelli commented to the Italian League site at the end of the last game of the Main Round after three wins out of three; “The match was well player, although there have avoidable situations on the goals. It happens, but we did well to stay in the game and as we have done in many other games we kept very calm and composed, we set out to put the work in to take the game. They were two halves played well in my opinion, a good game with which I’m satisfied.”

His overall opinion on the group played in Krosno; “It was not easy to come and play here in Poland against teams that are very aggressive and, most of time, allowed Italy to have the ball with a deep defense with little space, with a constant threat of quick restarts. The players were good and conceding very little in the three games, which is okay. I want to reiterate my congratulations to the players, they have been good and now we go to defend the European title won in Antwerp.”

On the prospects for Serbia 2016; “For Italy it is always the objective to be competitive, I can say that we will try to remain at the highest level. That is the main thing. Alongside this highly competitive performance, there must exist what has always accompanied us in these years, beside from the results there was an Italy with an important face; positive and purposeful play, never speculative. I will continue to manage these two aspects, competitiveness and purposeful play.”
