Albuquerque: "Albuquerque: Believe in our ambition”

The draw for the UEFA Futsal Cup Final Four was held as part of Sunday’s Lisbon derby and the scene couldn’t have been any more dramatic, setting Sporting up with a semi-final clash against the European champion Barcelona on the 24th of April, in the Portuguese capital’s MEO Arena.

Miguel Albuquerque, Sporting’s director of futsal, admitted that he had hoped to avoid the Spanish giants, but guaranteed that his side will do everything possible to reach the final: “There are things that you can’t control in sport and draws are one of those things. If you were to have asked me this is the opponent that I wanted, then obviously it isn’t. We are talking about the reigning champion and one of the main candidates to win the competition, but this is a final between four teams and whoever wants to win the competition will have to win both of their games. I know that Sporting will not be favourites in our match, but I also believe in our ambition and conviction.”

Barcelona’s representative, Xavier O’Callaghan, also threw caution to the win: “We always knew that it would be a tough draw, because Europe’s four best teams are involved. We have a huge club coming up against us and our mission is to win the title again, but we know we will have to play two great games to do that.”
