scottishfa.co.ukNational futsal trials a successOn Sunday over 60 aspiring futsal players descended on Perth to take part in the nation’s first ever national team futsal trials. The Scottish FA are entering a team in the record largest UEFA Futsal Championships, where they will be joined by 45 other nations.
Of the 60 players that attended the first event 28 have been invited back for further assessments. Ritchie Wilson, Community Development Officer at the Scottish FA, said “We are pleased with the great number of good quality players that attended the event in Perth”. The Scottish FA intend to have between 24 and 30 players in the development squad with a number of gatherings for training and assessment between now and the championships.
Ritchie said “We are always on the lookout for good players. We would like the best players available to play for Scotland.” When asked about the ambitions he had for the qualifying campaign Ritchie said “Our ambition is to compete and to represent the country well. We don’t know who our opposition is, we find out on the 26th of September, so once we know that we can further assess the situation then”.
It is hoped that the team will get people talking about futsal in Scotland. Ritchie said “From a Scottish FA development point of view it is great to have a Scotland side in futsal. This will get people talking about the sport and hopefully be a catalyst to an increase in participation in our new regional leagues.”
Scotland will find out where they will play their qualifying fixtures on 26th of September. Possible destinations include Montenegro, Sweden and Malta.
