Match Day 2:	August 8, 2014
Daily Bulletins•There is a different atmosphere at the HP and Josten’s Courts today. Whereas yesterday, some of the teams were sizing up the competition and steadying nerves prior to their first matches, today’s early matches show know further jitters. All teams, all players, from the youngest Benjamin to the Adults are playing with a determination and purpose: they want to be crowned a World Champion.
•In Pool play, Sports CIA and Gulf Coast Australia finished undefeated at the top of their brackets and are on a likely collision course in the knockout finals.
•City Futsal of Dallas cruised in Bracket A of the Infantil Division, however in Bracket B there was a 3-way tie at the top. BW Gottschee won and advances on goals allowed, but Orlando City and Legends (CA) remained tied after all 3 tie-breakers. How was picking the advancing team resolved? There were two choices, to be selected by the two coaches: either a coin-flip or a 3-man penalty shoot-out. Of course, these great competitors selected to “play it out!” and Orlando City’s fine GK saved all 3 shots as Orlando City advances.
•In the Alevin Female Division, SAT Futsal easily advanced at the top of the group and in Alevin, GC Aussies will meet City Futsal in the Final.
•The Adult Division play has been very competitive, with tense action resulting in perfect records for Pascoe Vale Muita Calma of Western Australia and Toronto Boca Juniors going into the knockout rounds on Saturday.
•And, finally, the Cadete Male Division, which has been the most highly anticipated and followed in social media globally. FC Barcelona Futsal has advanced to the Champions Bracket with a perfect record and a goal differential of 41-5. Quietly, as if under the radar however, Pachuca USA (MD) has also vaulted into the Championship Bracket with a perfect 3-0 record and a goal differential of 39-15. Will we see a Barcelona v. Pachuca Final? Will Barcelona finally be tested? Stay tuned.
•With competition completed for the day at 1:00pm, USA Futsal moved on to the highlight of many of the coaches in attendance at the World Futsal Championships, as internationally renowned coaches, Marti Graells, Andreu Plaza, Miguel Tablado and Txus Lahor of FC Barcelona Futsal, as well as US National Team Coach Keith Tozer are teaching in the classroom and on the courts all afternoon. Teaching fundamentals such as “Attacking Strategies”, “Defensive Formations” and “Training Young Players”, the coaches were able to see real-time formations, as select players from within the tournament have served as demonstrators for each clinician.
•Tomorrow’s Match Day 3 begins promptly at 8:00am and will continue throughout the early evening.
