AGLA & LUPARENSE: Mission ScudettoOn Wednesday 28th May (20.30, live on Rai Sport 2) the final series will begin to award the 31st league title in the history of Italian futsal. The challenge is between AGLA endorsed LUPARENSE and Acqua & Sapone Pescara that in the 3rd game in the semi-finals defeated Lazio 10-1 and will have home advantage in the best of 5 series.
For LUPARENSE it is a 3rd consecutive final (Victorious in 2012 and defeated in 2013, with Marca Futsal the opponent in both). The Venetias of coach Colini aim for their 5th title in the last 8 seasons (which would equal the record set by Roma RCB). However for their opponents from the Abruzzo region it would be their 1st victory.
During the regular season, Acqua & Sapone was the winner in one game and the other ended in a tie. Their first meeting, in Piombino Dese, ended 4-4 and the return game was a 4-3 success for the team in black and blue.
It has taken LUPARENSE four games to get from the quarter finals to the final. Colini’s men eliminated Real Rieti first and Asti in the semi-finals, with a win and a draw being enough for both in the best of 3 game series. Acqua & Sapone have reached the final after defeating Pescara and Lazio, both going to the 3rd game of the series.
For the 4th year year in a row, the final is a best of 5 but the order of games has changed from last season. Game 1 will be played in the home of the best league finisher (In this case, Acqua & Sapone), then to the home of the worst finisher (LUPARENSE) for Game 2 and Game 3, then it will return to Abruzzo for Game 4 and Game 5 if they are required. If any of the first four games are level at the final whistle, the winner will be decided on penalties. In Game 5, if they are level after 40 minutes, there will be two 5 minute periods of extra-time before going to penalties.
