Defending Champion U.S. Will Play Qatar, Cyprus and England in Newcastle then Return to Milwaukee for a Double Header against FranceCHICAGO (May 9, 2014) – U.S. Futsal Men’s National Team head coach Keith Tozer has named a 14-player squad for the upcoming Four Nations Tournament in Newcastle, England, which runs from June 5-8 and a pair of friendly matches against France in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The 2014 Four Nations Tournament will be held at Newcastle upon Tyne’s Sport Central arena on the campus of Northumbria University, where the U.S. will face off against Qatar on June 5, Cyprus on June 6 and England on June 8.
"I'm extremely excited about the roster of players we have coming into training camp in Milwaukee,” said Men’s Futsal National Team head coach Keith Tozer. “We have a great mix of veteran players and new players coming into the U.S. Futsal National Team program. These games in England will be great for us as we start to prepare two years out for the CONCACAF qualifiers in 2016.”
The U.S. is the defending champion of the Four Nations Tournament, having won the 2013 competition – also held in Newcastle – with a 3-0-0 record and +10 goal differential against England, Malaysia and Poland. Eight of the 14 players on the roster for the 2014 event helped deliver the 2013 tournament title, including: Ricardinho Cavalcante, Patrick Healey, Bryan Perez, Bato Radoncic, Nelson Santana, John Sosa, Lucas Stauffer and Danny Waltman.
The U.S. will then return to home soil for two matches against France on June 12 and 14 at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Kern Center. Both matches will be free of charge and open to the public.
“To be able to play France in Milwaukee is another great challenge for us as well as another great opportunity to not only have players gain valuable futsal experience but to also showcase international futsal within the United States," said Tozer.
