The Stoke SentinelFemale footballers take part in futsal festival in CreweFebruary 05, 2014FEMALE footballers have been showing off their skills on the pitch at a futsal festival.
South Cheshire College hosted the event for female students from education institutions across the North West.
It included teams from the Crewe-based college and Reaseheath College, near Nantwich.
They took part in short games of futsal, which is a five-a-side variant of football that is usually played indoors on a smaller pitch.
All the footballers have to stick to specific futsal rules, which include no sliding tackles and kick-ins instead of throw-ins.
Sixteen-year-old Emily Bayfield, who is studying sport at South Cheshire College, was one of the players at the tournament.
Emily, from Ashley, said: "I think it's great to promote football for girls. I love playing and it's fun to play against colleges and show off our skills."
Steph Knott, women and girls' football development officer for the Cheshire FA, was delighted with the festival's success.
She said: "Traditionally, many girls and boys drop out of football when they reach college age, so futsal is a great way of keeping them involved and raising awareness of football opportunities."
The festival was held in the sports arena and games were officiated by former Premier League official Trevor Massey.
