Hunter Futsal Soccer and Sports star makes big time at Australian national futsal titles

Feb. 3, 2014

HE aims, he shoots, he scores! Nine-year-old futsal star Jack Knowles knows how to play the field.

The Raymond Terrace footballer had his first taste of national competition at the Australian national futsal titles last month.

More than 1500 players from Australia and New Zealand converged in Sydney for the titles.

Jack, who plays for Hunter Futsal Soccer and Sports at Howzat Newcastle, was the youngest player to represent Northern NSW Country in the under-10s category.

His love of futsal came about after being chosen by New Lambton Soccer Club to play for a selective team.

Jack is a versatile player who can play any position on the field, including goalkeeper.

Despite being up against players nearly two years his senior at the titles, he was not fazed.

The Northern NSW Country under-10s team played six games with only three training sessions under their belt.

Their best result was a 7-2 win over a Queensland academy team from the Whitsundays.

Although the team didn't make the finals, they were pleased to compete at the national competition.

Jack, who was the flag-bearer for Northern NSW Futsal in the opening ceremony, said he was proud to represent his local area.

He said his teammates were all skilled players and they loved to compete together.
