Coombeshead Academy girls storm to regional title – without conceding a single goal

January 30, 2014

GIRLS from Coombeshead Academy will represent South Devon at the county's futsal finals next month, after storming through the regional championships without conceding a goal.

Playing at Paignton Community and Sports Academy's Hub last week, the girls won all six of their matches against other schools from the area.

Convincing performances against all teams saw them hit 35 goals while keeping clean sheets in all their matches.

Highlights included an 11-0 win over Newton Abbot College, with hat-tricks from Georgia Wilson and Ella Mae Miller.

Daniella Tyson was joint-top scorer for the girls with 11 goals in the six matches, while Jess Pugh and Paige Unwin took turns in goal and could not be beaten once.

Meanwhile, Coombeshead Academy's Year Seven boys were also in action in Paignton against other South Devon schools. The team finished third in their group, and went into a group with other third-placed finishers.

But they suffered defeats against Paignton Community College A and B, losing 3-1 and 2-1 respectively.

They did however win their final game 5-0 with Ben Schafer (2) Ben Walton, Dan and Josh Atkinson scoring.

Finally, Coombeshead's Year Nine boys also competed in their South Devon championships and finished third overall despite two early defeats.
