The Sun DailyCommunity sports club at all parliamentary constituency: Khairy5 January 2014TANJUNG KARANG: The Youth and Sports Ministry is to set up a community recreation and sports club in every parliamentary constituency this year in the effort to activate sports activities at the grassroots level.
Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the club, in the final stages of being established, would be the latest platform for youngsters to gather and participate in healthy recreational and sports activities.
"The club will help further unite the people through sports such as futsal and sepak takraw besides promoting the ministry's agenda of fostering the culture of volunteerism in the people," he told reporters after launching the 1Malaysia Futsal Endurance Championship organised by the Tanjung Karang Umno Youth, here, last night.
On another matter, Khairy, who is also Umno Youth chief, welcomed Selangor Umno's decision to prohibit any of its members from going ahead with the plan to hold gatherings in front of churches in the state today in protest against the decision for Catholic churches to continue using of the word 'Allah' in reference to God in their weekend service.
"I see the Selangor Umno decision as a right one because demonstrating in front of churches will only stoke emotions," he said.
Several Umno branches and Islamic non-governmental organisations in Selangor had planned to hold protest gatherings in front of churches in the state on Sunday over a remark by a Catholic priest.
Father Lawrence Andrew, editor of The Herald Catholic weekly, had reportedly said that churches in Selangor would continue to use the word 'Allah' in their weekend service. – Bernama
