Saipan TribuneAstig Futsal, Fake Madrid share leadMonday, December 30, 2013by
Roselyn MonroyoAstig Futsal and Fake Madrid are still tied for the lead in Saipan Soccer School’s 2013 U13 Co-ed Christmas Futsal Tournament after bagging twin wins over the weekend at the TSL Sports Complex.
Astig Futsal holds a 3-1-0 win-draw-loss record after earning a 5-1 win over Foot Loose in its final game in the first round last Fridy and an 11-0 victory over Kanoa Mighty Orange at the start of the second and final round last Saturday. Fake Madrid also recorded a lopsided win against Kanoa Mighty Orange last Friday, 13-0, and completed the weekend sweep with a 4-2 victory against Foot Loose last Saturday.
The Foot Loose-Fake Madrid tiff was the first match played last Saturday with Sunjoon Tenorio powering the latter to victory. He scored all four goals for Fake Madrid, while Foot Loose’s two goals were courtesy of Chan Shankweiler and John Roxas.
Shankweiler put Foot Loose on the board in the first half, which ended in a tie with Tenorio making the equalizer. Tenorio then went all out in the second half with his hat-trick to give Fake Madrid its third win.
Tenorio also had a hat-trick in their 13-0 demolition of Kanoa Mightly Orange last Friday, as he and Guinevere Borja showed no mercy against their hapless foe. Borja scored five goals, recording a hat-trick early in the first half. Tenorio and Katrina Costales contributed two each in the opening 25 minutes of the game, while Lyka Sally and Logan Mister added one, as Fake Madrid rose to a 9-0 halftime lead. Borja dropped two more in the second half, while Mister and Tenorio chipped in one apiece to cap the one-sided game.
After a bad beating versus Fake Madrid, Kanoa Mighty Orange suffered the same fate at the hands of Astig Futsal. Astig Futsal took it slow in the first half, leading by only four, before turning on the heat in the second.
Diana Maniacop and James Ermitanio, who logged only one goal apiece for Astig Futsal in the first half, scored two each in the final frame to lead the team to its third victory. Also making it to the board for Astig Futsal were Mia Carreon, Krizel Tuazon, Alan Hinson, and Joshua De Leon.
De Leon contributed, too, in Astig Futsal’s victory over Foot Loose last Friday. He found the back of the net in the first half, along with Mareko Tekopua and Steven Martin to lift Astig Futsal to a 3-0 halftime lead. In the second half, Tuazon and Hinson scored for Astig Futsal, while Foot Loose avoided a shutout after drawing a goal from Carla Ballesteros.
The second and final round of the tournament will continue this week with the Top 2 teams after six games advancing to the finals and the last two playing for third place honors.
