New Zealand Futsal league down to the wire

Competition reaching the final stages ...

The tight race for the semi-finals of the ASB Futsal National League culminates in Napier this weekend as Series Three of the competition kicks off at Pettigrew Green Arena in Napier on Friday.

With just seven points separating the first seven teams in the competition, the showcase event looks set to be the most keenly contested in the history of the league.

Futsal South come into the weekend in top spot on 18 points with five wins and three draws from their 10 matches and with three of their four games scheduled against teams in the top five, their playoff destiny is in their own hands.

Northern’s quest for back-to-back titles continues with the defending champions a point behind the leaders having won the same number of games as Futsal South.

On home turf this weekend and after a big improvement in Series Two; Central Futsal Hawke’s Bay currently occupy third place, a point behind Northern having also won five of their 10 matches across the first two weekends of the competition.

Hosts of Series Two; Capital Futsal sit in fourth place on 15 points after climbing the table two weeks ago, finishing the weekend in Wellington unbeaten.

Leaders heading into Series Two; Auckland went the other way, sliding down out of the top four as they netted just a point from their five matches.

Central Futsal Manawatu in sixth will have playoff aspirations of their own, their rapid improvement in the competition headlined by victories in Wellington over Auckland and Northern and a draw with Futsal South.

Seven points off top spot and just four out of a playoff position, seventh-placed Mainland Football will also have designs on the top four, after a number of close defeats punctuating their campaign in Wellington.

Series Three action from the 2013 ASB Futsal National League gets underway at Pettigrew Green Arena in Napier on Friday 29 November at 11.30am.

Entry is FREE, so get along and watch the battle to see who be crowned national champions.
