THE Football Association of Malaysia have offered KL Felda United the chance to represent Malaysia at the World Women’s Futsal Championship in Madrid.

Felda team manager Mohd Khaidir Mukhtar, 29, said that being given the responsibility by FAM to represent the country at the world stage was a big honour.

“It is certainly a huge honour for Felda to represent Malaysia at the World Championship in Spain and our general manager, Datuk Faizoull Ahmad has also stressed that the players who are eventually chosen to play should give their best for the country,”said Khaidir.

FAM have handed full responsibility to Felda to prepare the team for the World Champion-ship in Madrid as the date of the event (Dec 12-21) coincides with the SEA Games.

“A total of 13 players will be given the chance to represent their country at the World Championship and at the same time we will also be calling up 20 players from clubs that currently feature in the Felda/FAM National Futsal League.

“This will be players that are not called to represent Malaysia at the SEA Games,”said Khaidir, as this comes in accordance with the recommendations of the FAM that Felda do not marginalise the selection of players in favour to them and leave the doors open for players from other clubs to have a chance to feature in Madrid.

Kahidir said, that the team selection will be done between Nov 21-23.

“Currently, we are evaluating the players based on their teams position in the league and their performance. Some of the players who are involved have already been notified and a release letter has already been sent to their respective clubs.

“We have also called in players from other clubs such as Sabah, Selangor MPSJ, Selangor, Kedah and Perlus UniMAP.”

However, information on when the team will be leaving to Madrid and the teams that are participating are yet to be confirmed.

Commenting on the team’s chances in Madrid, Khaidir said, “We will have to see who our competitors are first.

“We won’t go into the tournament with any high expectation as every time the women’s teams feature in the international arena we will be the whipping boys and one thing the team can do is to change that perception.

“Chances like this don’t come to you always and the players will constantly be reminded to their best,”

In the meantime, Khaidir will try to appeal to the FAM to release three of his player who were called up to represent the national squad for the SEA Games.

The three players involved are Farahiyah Muhd Ridzuan, Siti Nurul Atiqah Norhalimi Hussain and Zaifulizan.
