The-AFC.comThailand claimed the title of the AFC Futsal Championship 2014 Asean Zone qualifiers after beating Australia 2-1 in the closely contested final held at the Bangkok Thonburi University on Sunday.
Thai international Suphawut Thueanklang scored a brace in the 13th and 36th minute as Jarrod Basgar’s 39th minute goal was not sufficient for the Futsalroos to prevent Thailand from winning their ninth Asean title.
Thailand were qualified in the next year’s final by virtue of finishing second in the previous finals, while Vietnam are automatic entrants by being the hosts for the next year’s finals.
With Thailand and Vietnam being qualified automatically and Australia ensuring a place by finishing runners-up, there were two extra slots available for fourth-placed Indonesia and fifth placed Malaysia for the AFC Futsal Championship 2014.
