ManchesterFutsal.comFUTSAL FEVER is gripping the North West with Manchester Futsal Club spearheading the charge as the popular Youth Development Centres and Youth Futsal Training Camps prove to be a huge success with the players.
Ilya Ovechkin, Head of Youth Development, believes that the future is bright for futsal in Greater Manchester and that more and more youngsters will be joining the Club at academy level. But for now, the Russian is focusing on encouraging more players to participate and enjoy the sport.
“We are very pleased with the numbers that have attended our Youth Futsal Training camps and Youth Development Centres over the past year,” said Ovechkin.
“Our youth programmes have only been running for a year and we have done well in raising the awareness of those programmes. It’s only the beginning of our long term setup, so it’s pleasing to see the quality of players that have attended the sessions.
“The players that have been with us the longest are the ones we can see the significant improvement in technically, but now they’re also beginning to think like futsal players. It also helps them when they play mini soccer with their junior clubs.
“The parents can certainly see the way we develop the players over the period they are with us and it’s good to see that they all enjoy our Youth Development Centres and Youth Futsal Training camps.”
With futsal becoming more popular across the nation thanks to a few cameo appearances on Sky Sports News, more youngsters have chosen to take up the sport for leisure.
Futsal is credited to developing the technical abilities of players as well as raising awareness on court and encouraging players to manipulate the ball in tight, enclosed situations. The Brazilians believe futsal is the foundation of their success and Ovechkin is hoping the youngsters at the Centres and camps can learn from the Samba Stars.
“We want our players to be creative and smart on the court and be able to deal with various scenarios when playing the game, while also encouraging them to enjoy the game,” continued Ovechkin.
“The main objective of our programmes is to educate players about futsal. The core values of our sessions are based on technical development of individual players and complimenting that with the specific fundamentals of futsal.
“The players enjoy the programmes and love attending our sessions, and that has been our feedback throughout. We have a good group of players who are eager to learn. The parents also understand and are always honest with their feedback, we are never shy from good or bad feedback and, so far, it’s all been positive.”
