School teachers have shown greater interest in futsal coaching as evident during an AFC Level 1 Futsal Coaching Certificate Course whcih closed recently in the capital city of Hubei province.

The five-day course was held in the ‘pilot city of futsal in China’, where the city’s Dilong Futsal Club have won five championships in the Chinese Football Association (CFA) Futsal League.

And the city's enthusiasm in the game remains high as the local FA and stakeholders are looking to the next stage towards a comprehensive futsal pyramid.

Amongst the 15 participants, 11 are primary school physical education teachers who are carrying a heavy responsibility to bring futsal as a supplemental element into the well structured China Football School League.

Although five-a-side football is played in a comprehensive format for different age groups, futsal has yet to find its impact on the game.

For most of the schools, there is no real introduction of futsal and thus no appropriate training for the school boys or girls who are participating in the nationwide school tournament.

Speaking at the closing of the course, Wang Jun, Deputy General Secretary of Wuhan FA, said: “The local authority will do its utmost best to keep the reputation of the city's futsal by producing more talented players in the future.

“To improve the current status, Wuhan FA with cooperation from the AFC and CFA is planning to organise more Futsal Level 1 courses to expand the pool of futsal coaches/educators in primary schools starting from the key football schools.”

The course held at the Wuhan FA Training Centre was conducted by Li Jing, who is also a member of the China National Team coaching panel.

The course is designed to create futsal coaches for the development of this popular game across Asia. The students will be kept up-to-date with the latest changes and improvements in futsal coaching and will cover the practical and theoretical aspects of the game.

Holders of the basic Level 1 certificate can go on to take up the next credential, Level 2.

The involvement of school teachers in futsal coaching is expected to attract more pupils in all primary schools in the capital city of Hubei Province to participate in futsal.
