The-AFC.comVietnamese champions Thai Son Nam scored two late goals to hold Chinese champions Shenzhen Nanling 2-2 in their opening match of the AFC Club Futsal Championship 2013 on Tuesday.
Both sides were held 2-2 in the regulation time back in April in the semi-final of the qualifiers and this time again the script was same.
Shenzhen were in firm control of the match until the 35th minute with a two-goal cushion but Jesus Rodriguez Cruz reduced the deficit by 2-1 in the 36th minute.
With just a minute left, Thai Son Nam captain Nguyen Quan netted the equaliser to stun the Chinese.
Earlier, Shenzhen’s Iran international Daneshvar Masoud put them 1-0 ahead in the 17th minute and the Chinese champions doubled their lead two minutes into the second half through their Brazilian import Danilo Moura.
“Despite my side not being physically strong, we played well in the first half but yet again a couple mistakes proved fatal as we conceded two goals without scoring,” Thai Son Nam’s Italian tactician Sergio Gargelli said.
“The second half was great, all the players found their spaces and created chances resulting in two great goals.
“This Shenzhen team is totally different than that in the qualifiers, they improved a lot with a new coach and new set of players. Danveshwar was great today,” he complemented the goal scorer.
Gargelli’s counterpart Adil Amarante lamented on the poor second half show by his team.
“The first half and second half were totally different,” he said adding that his team lost the plot in the second half and did not create more goal scoring opportunities.
“So we could have won the match but anyway it was a good result today, I am happy.
“We will look at the weaknesses we had today and hopefully will perform much better tomorrow,” he added.
