US Youth Futsal PressUS Youth Futsal announced today the appointment of US Men's National Futsal Team head coach Keith Tozer as the organization's first technical director.
“We are very excited to have Keith as the Technical Director of US Youth Futsal,” said US Youth Futsal Executive Director Jon Parry. “He is a highly accomplished coach with the experience and knowledge to advance futsal in the United States. Keith has had success as the US Futsal National Team coach and we look forward to the leadership he will provide in developing futsal coaches and players.”
Tozer will develop a Coaching Education program and take charge of the recently established FUTSAL I.D. program. A FIFA Futsal Instructor since 2009, Tozer has traveled the world and country to train coaches and players. “I am extremely excited about helping US Youth Futsal by developing a coaching curriculum, coaching manuals, certification courses and systems of play,” Tozer said. “Working closely with the coaches and players of the USYF will only help with the process of developing players for our youth national teams which will then directly help fill the national team. I am fully convinced that futsal being a part of our players youth development will create the next generation of special players.”
Tozer has coached the United States Men's National Futsal Team since 1996 and has guided the team to seventh place at the FIFA Futsal World Cup finals, two CONCACAF Futsal Championships and first place at the recent Four Nations Tournament in England. “Keith Tozer is a fantastic addition to the US Youth Futsal Technical Staff,” added USYF co-founder and Sporting Kansas City Manager Peter Vermes. “[Tozer's] extensive experience will prove to be extremely beneficial to the overall development of our players and leagues across the United States.”
In addition to creating futsal-specific coaching curriculum and certification similar to that of the US Soccer Federation, Tozer will lead the five US Youth FUTSAL I.D. camps scheduled for Akron, Boston, Dallas, Kansas City and San Diego in the coming year, plus the US Youth Futsal Festival and US Youth Futsal Summit.
“FUTSAL I.D. aims to form a pool of players for [national teams] in the future,” Parry explained. “We have divided the country into five regions and named a regional director for each.”
Futsal is the official indoor sport sanctioned by FIFA and is recognized throughout the world for promoting exceptional skill development and decision-making. It is played on a hard surface with boundary lines and a low-bounce ball and is now the fastest-growing indoor sport in the United States and in the world.
US Youth Futsal oversees leagues and programs in 59 markets in more than 27 states. Along with its affiliates it influenced a 70 percent growth over the previous year. It also hosts the US Youth Futsal National Championships and the US Youth FUTSAL I.D. program.
