AFC.comAFC Futsal Club Championship 2013 participating Chonburi Bluewave bowed out of the group stages of the ongoing
Kuwait Mini World Futsal Club Tournament despite beating local club Kazma 3-1 on Sunday.
Chonburi finished level on points with Alumnus Zagreb in Group D but Zagreb made it through to the quarter-finals as group runners-up with superior goal differences to Pazos Mendes’ side.
Going into the match, Chonburi knew that they needed to win it by a big margin and Thai international Surawut Jaipetch broke the deadlock in the 16th minute to cap off a brilliant first half. Thailand ace Suphawut Thueanklang made it 2-0 in the 27th minute.
Chonburi conceded two goals in quick succession in the 29th and 30th minutes which prevented them from entering into the knockout stages. Nattawut Madyalan scored the decisive goal in the 33rd minute to win the match but the goals conceded damaged the Thai side’s chances of progression.
The AFC Futsal Club Championship 2013 will take place next month in Nagoya, Japan.
Chonburi are pitted alongside defending champions Sanaye Giti Pasand, 2012 finalists Ardus and Qatari side Al Sadd who are also participating in the Kuwait tournament.
