Sun StarFutsal clinic seen to lure 6-12 year oldersby
Roderick OsisThursday, July 18, 2013THE RAINY season here in the summer capital has failed to dampen the spirits of football enthusiasts as Cordillera Goshenland Football Club has opened another football clinic that will cater to four different age group.
The indoor football or popularly known as futsal clinic which starts July 20 will run up to September this year every Saturday’s at the Green Valley Sports Club –Basketball Court.
Futsal is a variant of football mainly played indoors developed in Brazil and Uruguay during the 1930s and 1940s which is frequently referred to as five-a-side or mini-soccer.
While Brazil continues to be the Futsal hub of the world, the game is now played, under the auspices of FIFA, all over the world, from Europe to North and Central America and the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and Asia and Oceania.
CGFC coach Aris Bocalan, a former Philippine National Futsal Team player, will supervise the futsal clinic.
Bocalan was one of the country’s representative in last month’s FIFA World Cup coaches seminar in Malaysia.
CGFC has been in the forefront of promoting football in the summer capital with their series of football clinics and tournaments during the summer and this rainy season, the club has opted to teach futsal as it will soon be played in regional games and at the Palarong Pambansa.
The clinic will also help parents to keep their kids away from an overdose of computer gaming during the rainy season.
Interested players may register at the Goshen Land Caring Hands office at Montinola subdivision along Kisad Road or contact the futsal clinic secretariat at 0927-642-0356.
In coordination with the Department of Education, CGFC started training public school students of the Baguio City National High School through the help of principal Elma Donaal.
CGFC will soon train DepEd teachers for futsal coaching for free, as it has done in its past teachers’ football coaching course.
