AFC.comPivot Alan Brandi scored twice at the start of the second period as Santiago Futsal defeated 2013 AFC Futsal Club Championship qualifiers Chonburi 3-1 in their second match at the Kuwait Mini World Futsal Club Tournament on Wednesday.
Hamza Maimon Amessaoud put the Spanish top-flight side 1-0 up before Al Brandi’s quick-fire double (21st and 22nd) put the match all but out of the reach of the Thais.
Chonburi, who held Croatia’s MKN Alumnus to a 2-2 draw in their opening match of the 16-team invitational tournament, reduced the deficit in the 29th minute but the five-time Thai Futsal League champions were unable to find a way back into the match in the final ten minutes.
Chonburi are next in action in Kuwait on Sunday when they face local side Kazma as they continue preparations for next month’s AFC Futsal Club Championship, where they will face last year’s champions Giti Pasand, Uzbekistan’s Ardus, runners-up to the Iranians in the 2012 final and Qatari outfit Al Sadd, who are also gearing up for the continental tournament in Nagoya by taking part in the Kuwait Mini World Futsal Club Tournament.
