The Bangkok PostThailand lose 5-4 to Iran in men's futsal5 Jul 2013Thailand lost 5-4 to Iran in the men's futsal semi-finals at the fourth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon, South Korea yesterday.
Ranked 17th in the world and third in Asia, the Thai team took the lead after three minutes through Jirawat Sornwichian.
Iran, world No.7 and Asia's top-ranked side, fought back for a 3-1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Hossein Tayebibidgoli scored his second goal to make it 4-1.
Apiwat Chaemcharoen and Suphawut Thueanklang cut the deficit to 4-3 only for Tayebibidgoli to complete his hat-trick. Kritsada Wongkaeo scored in the final seconds but it was too late.
Tomorrow, Iran will meet Japan, who beat Kuwait in the other semi-final, in the final, while Thailand will take on Kuwait in the bronze-medal match.
"Our players were still tired from their win against Lebanon," Thailand coach Victor Hermans. "When we were behind, we only tried to attack and forgot our tactics."
On the women's side, Thailand will face Indonesia in the third-place play-off. The event ends tomorrow.
