The Borneo PostS’wak out of Sukma XVI futsalJuly 5, 2013, FridaySARAWAK’s campaign in Perlis Sukma futsal came to an abrupt stop after Kedah sent the 2011 Sukma bronze medalist packing when they lost 5-3 in group stage match played at Puchong.
The state team squandered their 3-1 lead in the second half and Kedah scored four goals to seal the match.
State futsal coach Mohammad Mantali lamented the failure of his players to follow tactics have cost the team dearly.
“The Kedah team started attacking with all the players, including a player which was substituted with a goalkeeper, when we were up 3-1 and my players just could not cope with that,” he said.
Apart from that, he also lamented on the absence of a playmaker in the team which had lost a lot of possession.
“I do want to put the blame entirely on my players but our players must realise the standards of the other states competing in Sukma,” he commented.
In this year’s Sukma, Sarawak could only manage a win in their group stage matches which was the 3-2 victory against Pahang played last Monday.
Last Tuesday they were thrashed by Terengganu 2-8 which was one of the worst results ever by the state.
Only the men’s team competed in Sukma XVI this year as Sarawak did not send their women’s team.
