Roselyn MonroyoThe 2013 Youth Futsal League kicked off last Saturday with all three games at the TSL Sports Complex going down to the wire.
In the opening match, Shirley’s FC edged Alu FC in the girls U18 division, 2-1. Dianne Pablo made the winning goal in the second half, while Gabrielle Race scored the other goal for Shirley’s. Joining Race and Pablo on the squad are Mia Carreon, Ciara Apostol, De Jana Muna, Michaela Gariguez, Elaine Enriquez, and Cha Aragon.
Guine Borja leads Alu FC and she also nailed the lone goal of the team, finding the back of the net in the first half to force a standoff after the first 20 minutes of play. Completing the Alu FC roster are Maile Aldrich, Angel and Lyka Sally, Pin Shankweiler, Chloe Salvosa, and Gillian Villagomez.
NMI B 6, NMI A 5In the first boys U18 match, NMI B slipped past NMI A.
Players from both camps are members of the CNMI youth training pool that are preparing for off-island competitions this year and in 2014.
Jake Lee anchored NMI B’s win, as he made a hat-trick. Lee notched two goals in the first half and added one in the second to foil NMI A’s comeback bid. John Taisacan also earned a goal in the second half, while Louie Calayag and Yoshi Mafnas made it to the board in the opening 20 minutes of the match.
Joining Lee, Taisacan, Calayag, and Mafnas on NMI B are Christian Valenzuela, Ryan and Reniel Relucio, Ivan Seo, Chad Shankweiler, James Ermitanio, Billy Hinson, David Yang, Keeanu Diaz, JC Piring, Joshua Galarion, and Greg Sablan.
Duplicating Lee’s hat-trick was Jireh Yobech, who also bagged the twin goals in the first half. However, Yobech had only Dakota Hall helping him out on offense in the opening frame, leaving NMI A with a deficit. Yobech got one more goal in the second half, while Carlson Cruzat recorded the other one. Ten other players are on the NMI A roster— Enrico del Rosario, Evan Belcher, Won Jun Jim, Joel Fruit, John Masga, Oliver Lumbad, Christopher Aninzo, Kennedy Izuka, James David, and Aaron Lee.
Thundercats 5, Asian Kanoa FC 4Tim Tawanpiy was the third player to earn a hat-trick in the opening of the league to power the Thundercats to a close win over Asian Kanoa FC.
Tawanpiy helped the Thundercats pulled off a come-from-behind win, as his team was down at the break, 1-2, when he dropped three goals in the second half. Brian Lee scored the two other goals for the Thundercats, nailing one each in the first and second half.
The Thundercats listed only five players on their roster with Bada Lee, Makani Gramlich, and Sunjoon Tenorio completing the lineup.
Michael Fidelino tallied all goals for the Thundercats, scoring two apiece in the first and last frame. Completing Asian Kanoa FC’s roster are Marc Mora, Rodwealth Espana, Jun Sik Kim, Raphael Zapanta, Dale Ballesteros, Alan Hinson, Jonas Dapiawen, and Angelo Guevarra.
