School kids have a ball at the Futsal Centre

June 23, 2013

THE Ballarat Futsal Centre’s Have a Try Day scored big points with school children last week.

Held at the centre, which opened last October, 57 teams and more than 400 children took part in the event.

Director of coaching Corey Smith said the day was a taster for futsal.

“There are no medals, it’s about them having a go today.”

Maggie Hutchins, 11, said everyone was having fun.

“Just the enthusiasm, everyone is really enthusiastic to play,” she said.

Australian men’s futsal coach Gui Costa was on the sidelines looking out for talented players.

“I have found players good enough to represent the state,” he said.

Tyler Fratantaro, nine, enjoyed kicking goals.

“I liked the first game because we won,” he said. “Futsal is awesome.”
