Your Local GuardianFutsal course becomes first in Croydonby
Andrew BlossSaturday 22nd June 2013Ever wanted to follow in Messi’s or Ronaldo’s footsteps? Well now you can as futsal comes to town.
A partnership involving the Oasis Academy Coulsdon and the Football League Trust Futsal consortium means the new style of 5-a-side will be offered to 16-19 year-olds.
Futsal is said to be one of the fastest growing indoor sports in the world, with over 30 million players worldwide.
Players such as Zidane, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Messi and others all endorse the game, which is meant to help grow the technical side of your game.
The game is fast, dynamic and exciting, with the emphasis on tactical awareness, fitness and movement.
From September, students accepted on to the course will begin a two year course improving their skills, learning to coach and referee Futsal, whilst studying for a BTEC national qualification in Sport.
Oasis Academy Coulsdon Principal, David Millar, says: "Sport is a very important feature of Oasis Academy Coulsdon and we are delighted to be joining this exciting new programme for 16 - 19 year olds."
