England finish tournament without recording a victory By Kevin Hartwell England came 3rd in the Four Nations tournament, ahead of Malaysia on goal difference. Englands two previous defeats against USA and Poland left them battling it out to avoid finishing bottom of the group. A 2-2 draw was enough to keep them from finishing in last place.
Pete Sturgess' men went into the tournament with high hopes as one of the favourites. Poland's recently appointed coach had a brought a new young squad and USA and Malaysia do not have well established national teams, rarely playing competitive fixures. However the hosts were unable to overcome their opponents in the first two games and were left to battle it out with Malaysia for third place.
The title deciding game was between USA and Poland who had both comfortably defeated the Malaysians and had identical results against England. USA only required a draw as their 8-1 win over Malaysia was superior to Poland's 6-1 victory. However USA took the title with a 4-2 victory and lifted the trophy with a 100% record.
