Middlesbrough looking for future futsal starsMiddlesbrough Futsal Club is launching an exciting new project for next season's under-12s team, who will train and be part of a team aiming to be English champions with Middlesbrough's first team in the future.
Interested players are being invited to apply for a trial with a maximum of 14 players being accepted into the programme starting in August 2013.
Boro are looking for hard working players aged 10-12 who want to receive expert coaching, regularly, in a team environment, with matches in the UK and abroad. No futsal or football experience is necessary to attend the trials, of which the first is on 15th June at 12 noon, Queen's Campus, Stockton. Trials cost £2 to cover use of the hall.
Futsal is widely recognised as the sport that top players such as Neymar and Iniesta grew up playing and it promotes playing under pressure and developing skills in small spaces.
The programme will be part subsidised by the club, with the help of sponsorship from Enhanced Care, a local company, a local company that provides high quality residential care services for young people.
Club owner Damon Shaw thinks this could be a massive move for futsal in Middlesbrough and England.
"This is a huge step for futsal in Middlesbrough and indeed England. What I saw in Barcelona was awe inspiring. Their juniors are so well conditioned, committed and developing in a fantastic team environment."
"I want to create a similar setting for children of the North East to access elite futsal coaching and to utilise my links for FC Barcelona to help develop some top futsal players and maybe even some top footballers."
"By the time these children are at senior level, futsal will be professional in England and if they start now, they will be among the best in the country, and even in Europe. The North East has an abundance of talent at a young age, and I want to harness that and help the kids reach their potential for either futsal or football. We will be looking to create good people who work hard and give everything and then we are sure that even if professional sport doesn't come from this, that they will go on to be successful in any field they choose."
The first round of trials will be held on Saturday 15th June at Durham University, Queen's Campus in Stockton from 12-1.30pm. To register for a trial, please regiser at BoroFutsal.com and we'll send an email with further trial details. For more information, contact Damon Shaw on 07807146319.
