Manchester Futsal Club Youth Coaching

WITH THE school year drawing to a close, Manchester Futsal Club held another Youth Futsal Training Camp last week at the National Cycling Centre.

The camps provide young players with a number of sessions that are aimed at educating them about futsal and techniques on how it can improve their game.

The camps started in October 2012, and Manchester Head of Youth Ilya Ovechkin believes the camps have gone from strength to strength since then.

“They’ve been extremely popular with the youngsters,” said the Russian. “At the moment we are still building the foundation for youth futsal and it’s encouraging to see many young players attending the camps and learning about the game.”

With many of the world’s best football clubs using futsal as a starting block for their youth team players to develop their technique, the camps also played to many prospective football stars from some of the North West’s biggest clubs. Along with players from grassroots clubs, many academy youngsters training with Manchester United, Manchester City, Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers came along to try and improve their game through learning about futsal.

“The standards have been very high and that’s given our coaches the opportunity to get the best out of the young players,” continued Ovechkin.

“It was a fantastic group to work with as they were all eager to mix together and learn. Players and parents have all been supportive of our youth program that we are currently implementing. The future is really bright for the next generation of players.”

The camps could also help build a culture that can establish the next group of Manchester Futsal players. Could it be possible that the club is already laying the foundation for its own La Masia?

“As a club, we are striving to provide further opportunities for young players to experience futsal. This is only the beginning of our long-term goal for youth.

“We want some of these players representing our first team in the future”
