The AFC.comChina futsal has potential insists Shenzhen's WuWednesday, 17 April 2013Shah Alam: Shenzhen Nanling coach Wu Zhuoxi believes that China has the potential to grow into one of the top futsal nations in Asia.
Wu, who led Shenzhen Nanling to the August finals of the AFC Club Futsal Championship 2013 after finishing second behind Thailand’s Chonburi Bluewave in the Zone 2 qualifiers, is adamant that the interest in futsal back home will bear fruit in future.
“We are still young compared to teams like Chonburi Bluewave or Thai Son Nam but I can see it’s coming,” the former China national futsal team captain told www.the-afc.com.
“If we gauge the Zone 2 qualifiers, Chonburi is undoubtedly the best side and that is down to Thailand doing outstanding job in their futsal development,” he said after witnessing his sides succumbing tamely to the Thais in the two matches they played in the qualifiers.
“My team Shenzhen will have to work a lot harder in next four months to pose a serious challenge in the finals. There are lots of areas where we need to improve. We must work on our defensive play, passes and more importantly freekicks,” he added.

The AFC.comSuccess in Nagoya on Mendez’s manifestoWednesday, 17 April 2013Shah Alam: Chonburi Bluewave's undefeated campaign in the recently concluded Zone 2 qualifiers for the AFC Club Futsal Championship 2013 announced the Thai side as serious title challengers in the finals to be held in Nagoya, Japan in August.
Having scored a total of 36 goals in five matches, a ratio of more than seven goals per game, their experienced Spanish coach Pazos Mendez believes that Chonburi Bluewave are now alongside the other bigwigs of the competition.
“They can beat any team of the continent on a given day if they continue playing like they did here in the qualifiers,” Mendez told www.the-afc.com.
“Thai futsal is on the rise and Chonburi are the key contributors. You can win or lose a match but the key thing is how you have done it. If we see our matches in this tournament, apart from some mistakes, we were always on top of our opponents.
“You can never rule out their chances of winning the finals in August because this side believes in teamwork. Of course there are a few areas where we should concentrate more and we must improve and work hard because this team is not yet at its true potential. But I believe in them so fixing a few things here and there will definitely make them harder to be beaten,” he added.
