Chonburi Bluewave 7-5 Tainan City

Thursday, 11 April 2013

Shah Alam: The curtain raiser of the AFC Futsal Club Championship 2013 Qualifiers Zone 2 unfolded brilliantly as Chonburi Bluewave emerged 7-5 winner over Tainan City in a thrilling contest at the Panasonic Sports Complex.

Having several experienced Thai international players in their ranks, Chonburi are tipped as a group favourite but the debutants from Chinese Taipei surprised the Pazos Mendez side by their well-coordinated and high tempo futsal.

At one stage, the score was 3-3 with just less than 15 minutes remaining but Chonburi players’ experiences counted and a quick-fire double from Apiwat Chaemcharoen eased off the pressure on the Thai side who will take on Pasargad FC of the Philippines on Friday.

“I must give credit to the Tainan City side whose conversion rate was
brilliant today,” conceded Chonburi coach Mendez.
“We won and it’s always good to win your first match but I am not satisfied with our performance, we made it easier for Tainan to play their brand of futsal.

“The first match of any tournament generally tends to be very tricky but we must improve if we want to qualify for the finals, there are lots of mistakes today and we must rectify them for our next match,” he said.

Tainan City, playing their first international competition, chased the match until the final whistle as a couple of late efforts could have easily sealed them a point from the match.

“Our defence was not at best, otherwise, we raised our performances today,” Tainan coach Lo Chih Tsung told www.the-afc.com.
“I am very happy that we managed to score five goals past an experienced side like Chonburi; solid concentration at our back would have sealed a stunning win for us, if not at least a point,” he rued.
“We got defeated but our moral is still high. We came here to learn and improve and hopefully on Friday we will improve a lot,” he said.

Thai Son Nam 6-2 Dural Warriors

Thursday, 11 April 2013

Shah Alam: Vietnamese champions Thai Son Nam took a huge step towards the knockout stages of the AFC Futsal Club Championship 2013 Zone 2 Qualifiers after defeating Dural Warriors of Australia 6-2 in their opening Group B match at the Panasonic Sports Complex.

With two of the three Group B sides qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition, Thai Son Nam are the frontrunners to finish the Group at pole position. They will face Indonesian side Pelindo on Saturday.

Both sides were on the top of their defensive game until Kotaro Inaba broke the deadlock through an individual effort in the 15th minute of the first half. Inaba dribbled past two Dural defenders before slotting home the lead through the legs of Dural goalie Nicholas Starr.

“We were physically much more maligned than the opponents because of the heat and humidity so we withered quite a bit at the end of each half,” Dural coach Robert Varela told www.the-afc.com.

“But on performance of my young team, I don’t have any complaint. In fact I am pleased with the boys’ efforts. The score (6-2) is not a true reflection of what had happened in the match. The difference was; they were clinical while our finishing was flat,” he added.

Three of Thai Son Nam goals were scored after, trailing by two goals, Dural resorted to powerplay letting Thai Son Nam hit them in counter-attack.

“It was an open match and it could have gone either way,” Thai Son Nam’s Italian coach Sergio Gargelli echoed Varela.

“We were not in complete control but I believe that the opponents were too young and they looked a bit fatigued than our players. I used all of my players to maintain the tempo throughout the match.
“But we are still not there. Definitely this win is a step forward but anything can happen so we have to remain on our guard,” said the Italian.

Inaba Kotaro 14', 31' --- Gregory Giovenali 15'

Shenzhen Nanling 10-2 Pasargad FC

Thursday, 11 April 2013

Shah Alam: Iranian futsal maestro Vahid Shamsaee held the string together as Shenzhen Nanling Tielang FC of China showed their intent by thrashing Pasargad of the Philippines 10-2 in their opening Group A match of the AFC Futsal Club Championship 2013 Qualifiers.

Shenzhen were in total control of the match and after some early pressure, they broke the deadlock in the 10th minute of the match from where the floodgates opened.

The ambitious Chinese club will take on Tainan City of Chinese Taipei on Friday while Pasargad will try to stay alive in the championship by beating Thailand’s Chonburi Bluewave on the same day.

“Unfortunately, the opponents were much more coordinated and were a tough side to beat,” fumed Pasargad coach Esmaeil Sedigh told www.the-afc.com.

“We were all over the place in the first half and in the second half we found a bit of our rhythm but we were up against a good side so it was not our day.

“However, I have watched our upcoming opponents’ matches early in the day and I am hopeful that we can exploit their weaknesses and progress in the tournament.

“This is first time we are playing international futsal and we hope there are lots of learning and experiences in the offing,” he added.
His Shenzhen counterpart, Wu Zhuoxi, was elated with the performance of the team in their big win.

“We had a strategy and the boys just followed what was our plan so offensively and defensively we were on top of our opponents today,” the former captain of the Chinese national futsal team said.

“We are ready for the other matches and we do hope that we do what we have done today in the other matches,” the confident Chinese said.
