Fiji TimesNew program for FUTSALby
Manoj KumarThursday, April 04, 2013The Fiji Football Association will separate FUTSAL (five-a-side) from the regular 11-a-side competition.
This was revealed yesterday at the pool draws during the Sun Insurance and Deven P Sharma Fiji FA-sanctioned FUTSAL Tournament in Suva.
"It will be a different ball game from hereon," Fiji FA FUTSAL chairman Yogeshwar Singh said.
"FUTSAL will stand on its own now." This means that players will now have to decide whether to play FUTSAL or the full game all year round.
FUTSAL players will have their own licence cards and won't be able to mix it, playing 11-a-side and five-a-side as and when they like.
This won't come into effect at this weekend's tournament but from the next event.
The two-day meet at the Vodafone Arena, starting 2pm on Saturday, will see nine teams competing for the $1000 winning prize purse. The runners-up get $300 and two losing semi-finalists $100 each.
Here are the pools: Pool A: Satellite United, Narere Boys, United Pacific, Jedi's FC and Northpole. Pool B: 3R, Dhanji Boys, Flagstaff and Wainivula Eels.
